Lorde – Green Light

Lorde has made her triumphant return with new single ‘Green Light’. This is the first new material to surface since 2014’s ‘Yellow Flicker Beat’ from the Lorde-curated Hunger Games Soundtrack.

Green Light’ serves up a refreshing direction for the New Zealand singer, opting for more of a house-style vibe. Opening with some sparse piano, ‘Green Light’ builds into a retro dance-floor filler with whirring synths, driving house piano chords and Lorde’s rousing vocals.

Produced by Jack Antonoff (Taylor Swift, Banks), ‘Green Light’ is taken from Lorde’s forthcoming sophomore album Melodrama and follow up to 2013’s Pure Heroine. Speaking with Zane Lowe on Beats 1, Lorde commented on heartbreak being the driving force behind the song:

“It’s not something that I really am used to writing about. It took me a while to be able to figure out how to write about that – it was my first major heartbreak. The song is about those moments immediately after your life changes, and the silly little things your mind gravitates towards.”

Upcoming dates for Lorde include Coachella (April 16 and 23) and New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival (April 27-7May). Melodrama is available via Universal Music on June 16.
